Entry Requirements (VET)

Nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses

In line with Standard 2 of the National Code 2007, Gold Coast Learning Centre recruits students in an ethical and responsible manner.

GCLC provides information that enables potential students to make informed decisions about studying with the registered provider in Australia.

Gold Coast Learning Centre ensures that students’ qualifications, experience and English language proficiency are appropriate for the course for which enrolment is sought.

Policy: Entry requirements for VET courses at GCLC

Gold Coast Learning Centre informs prospective students of entry requirements for each course through the website, pre-information booklet, student booklet and representing agents, via information provided in the agent’s manual.

  • For each student, the requirements listed are the minimum requirements for admission to any course at that level.
  • When the student has completed several measures of pre-testing over a period of time, only the most recent measure will be considered.
  • Gold Coast Learning Centre reserves the right to request that prospective students take a GCLC placement test for all courses.
  • Unless specifically mentioned, there are no prerequisite requirements for individual units of competency for Domestic students.
  • International students must meet the relevant English language entry requirements of the courses they wish to enrol in.
  • International students may be eligible for a visa to Australia if they do not meet the above requirements if their vocational education and training program is packaged with appropriate preparatory English study, such as that delivered at GCLC.

English language entry requirements for International students

International students must demonstrate English language competency by one of the following means:

  • 2 or more years of academic study to at least Australian Year 10 or overseas equivalent, where English was the language of instruction;
  • Current International students: English proficiency level requirement: IELTS or equivalent;
  • Current Gold Coast Learning Centre ELICOS student at Upper-Intermediate level or above;
  • Gold Coast Learning Centre English placement test;
  • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.

International students should note that IELTS is the only acceptable language test for students from some countries. Check with GCLC to determine if you require an IELTS score.

Supporting documentation must accompany the application for entry into all courses.

Entry requirements for VET Courses at Gold Coast Learning Centre

  • All applicants enrolling into Vocational programs must meet the minimum English entry requirements of:

    • IELTS Overall Band Score of 5.5 or equivalent, a recognized Upper-intermediate English certificate from another Australian College or the GCLC VET ENTRY test.
    • Students who wish to commence studies in any VET course will be asked to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment.
    • Students may be required to complete an English language course if their level of English is not sufficient for VET course entry.
    • Entry into our Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses requires a Year 12 qualification or equivalent.

All English evidence provided must be within a 2-year validity period of the commencement date.

The Manager or Academic Coordinator is responsible for student English language entry requirements.

  • Certificate II in Business (BSB20115)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 4.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Certificate III in Business Administration (BSB30415)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at High Intermediate level or higher
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Certificate IV in Business (BSB40215)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Diploma of Business (BSB50215)

    Domestic students applying for direct entry to Diploma and Advanced Diploma level courses must have completed either:
    • A minimum of Year 12 schooling, or equivalent; or
    • Be a mature age student (20 years of age and above) with relevant work experience
    Domestic students who do not meet these requirements are permitted to study a certificate level course prior to enrolment in the Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification. International students must meet one of the following English language requirements:
    • Current GCLC students assessed at Intermediate level or higher;
    • The equivalent of Australian Secondary School Grade 10 English;
    • English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Or at the discretion of the Academic Management of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Advanced Diploma of Business (BSB60215)

    Domestic students applying for direct entry to Diploma and Advanced Diploma level courses must have completed either:
    • A minimum of Year 12 schooling, or equivalent; or
    • Be a mature age student (20 years of age and above) with relevant work experience
    Domestic students who do not meet these requirements are permitted to study a certificate level course prior to enrolment in the Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification. International students must meet one of the following English language requirements:
    • Current GCLC students assessed at Intermediate level or higher;

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB42015)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB51918)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB61015)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • At the discretion of the Academic Management of Gold Coast Learning Centre
  • Diploma of Human Resources (BSB50615)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (FNS40217)

    • Current GCLC students assessed at Upper Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Diploma of Accounting (FNS50217)

    The following Prerequisites are required to enrol in this course.
    • Completion of the Certificate IV in Accounting (FNS40615) or equivalent; or
    • Completion of the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping (FNS40215) or equivalent; or
    • Completion of the following six units, or their equivalent:

    International students must meet one of the following English language requirements:
    • Current Gold Coast Learning Centre students assessed at Intermediate level or higher;
    • The equivalent of Australian Secondary School Grade 10 English;
    • English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
    • Or at the discretion of the Academic Management of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety (BSB41415)

    • Prospective applicants should be either working in, or have access to a Workplace Learning Environment to enrol in this qualification
    • There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification, however applicants are required to have some industry experience
    • Domestic students should have the Year 10 certificate and must complete and pass the GCLC Language, Literacy and Numeracy test prior to enrolment
    • Current GCLC students assessed at Intermediate level or higher;
    • International students: English proficiency level requirement of IELTS 5 or equivalent;
    • Domestic students: Completion of Grade 10;
    • Or at the discretion of the Director or Manager of Gold Coast Learning Centre.
    • Applicants should also have basic word processing skills in order to complete assignment requirements for this course
The Manager or Academic Coordinator is responsible for student English language entry requirements.
